In the words of Gary Vaynerchuk, ‘Don’t create, Document’. A very powerful statement in today’s world where everyone is fighting for attention and trying to get noticed. So I have decided to follow Gary’s advice and document my journey of moving from being employed into the beauty industry.
I love beauty and fashion. A little cliché, I know, but I have designed clothes since 12 years old. I found my love for makeup and beauty a little later, in my late teens/early twenties. Both of these combined ushered me into studying beauty therapy and with that under my belt I had big plans. Plans of starting my own business. Taking my skills and helping others out in the community to feel better about themselves whilst making them look good. Whether through makeup, manicures, pedicures or other beauty treatments.
My dream has been a little slow to start but I haven’t let that deter me. After all great things take time and patience. How do I get about trying to get noticed? Well we all know the power of social media and the most popular platforms to get noticed. They are all good and well but I must admit it is still a it challenging to get your brand out there. So, the second stage of improving myself and the brand Ohemaa Beauty? Work in the industry.
I recently applied for a job at a globally know makeup brand and funnily enough I saw the post for the vacancy on Instagram – very new era, I know. I was contacted for an interview which went very well and was booked that very day to return for a trade test. Now the trade test day came and I must say the day did not go according to plan, so my nerves shot through the roof! Needless to say, I don’t think the trade test was a great as I expected and now all I can do it wait. Wait and see what they say. Hopefully I get the call that I am waiting for and I can start a new chapter in my journey.
In the meantime. I will be working on my own projects and posting on social media to get my work out there. So if you have a moment free, head over to my other social media pages and see what I’m up to. Let me know what you think and how I can improve.
